ICMEC Australia's annual Symposium

About the event

From digital child trafficking to financial sexual extortion, child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSEA) can intersect with business operations in ways that many companies may not realise. More than one in four Australians have experienced child sexual abuse (ACMS, 2023), and the misuse of technology is accelerating this silent pandemic, demanding a whole-of-system response.

This annual one-day in-person event unites leaders from across the child protection response system to focus on a shared goal: supporting and empowering business professionals who detect, disrupt and prevent CSEA. Senior leaders from the public and private sectors present on the latest intelligence, solutions, and strategies across product design, social impact, risk management, financial crime, and more to build capacity across the child protection sector.

Event objectives

Build cross-sector connections to strengthen the collective response to CSEA
Share emerging trends and threats in the CSEA landscape to inform prevention and disruption strategies
Acquire practical takeaways for businesses that can be applied to prevent, detect, and respond to CSEA

Event learnings

During the 2025 Symposium, several key themes emerged that underscore how we can strengthen child protection efforts together:

  • Working as a collective: A coordinated system response is essential if we are to disrupt offenders and protect children at scale.
  • Adopting a child protection–centric mindset: Whether innovating in technology, reshaping policy, or enhancing reporting, children must remain at the centre of every decision.
  • Investing in prevention, not just response: We must focus on mitigating the risk before it occurs from various avenues; business systems, education, awareness, etc.

This event not only highlighted what is working today but also the opportunities we have to accelerate progress together.
